Salut, mes amis!

The sky does some cool stuff every now and then. |
Since it is the first of the month, I thought I should have some type of monthly roundup post where I can show off the DIY things that I've done from the past month! I consider myself to be a somewhat crafty person, and I do love sharing. So without further ado, here we go!
Pinterest Picks:
This section is about the DIY things I've done from Pinterest, with links to those posts!
This challenge is a good money-saving idea! Basically, every week you put in a dollar, but each week this number increases. So on week one you put in $1, week two you put in $2, week three you put in $3, ad nauseum until you get to week 52 (which is a year later) and you put in $52. After a year of saving up, you will have saved $1,378! I'm doing this challenge with both my mother and our friend Jacki, and we're all saving up for different things (my mom is saving for a trip and I'm saving for a car) We're also all putting in additional savings each week (instead of spending our change we're saving it up, and I am putting in $10 after I give a guitar lesson). I've never been successful at saving my money up, but it's something I need to be doing, and this is a good place to start.
Other DIYs of the Month:
These are things that I either found out of outside of Pinterest, or thought up myself.
Lace Detail Shorts
I am super proud of how these shorts came out! They were just standard, boring shorts that I've had for a while. When I went to a thrift shop with my friend Alice, I found a shirt that had this cool lace-ish detail on them and I thought that they would look cute on my shorts. So I bought the shirt, cut the details out, hemmed my shorts so they weren't quite as long, and hand stitched the details on the sides. The stitching took a while, but it was ultimately worth it. Shorts like these would have cost a pretty penny in the store, but I did it for about $2 and 2-3 hours.
Indoor Plants
A while back I bought a 5" glass terrarium from Urban Outfitters (similar item
here), thinking that I would love some plants in my room. I started off with grass because let's be honest, any idiot can grow grass in a controlled environment. The grass rocked (grass grows really fast), but it was tricky to keep it trimmed. So this month - after buying a small terra-cotta pot from a thrift shop, an
Eggling in wild strawberry, and a
suction wire basket - I planted some things in my bedroom! Spearmint in my terrarium and lavender in my little pot. I like having the basket suctioned to my little window because that means it gets the most sun (my terrarium only gets sun in the early morning). Nothing has sprouted yet, but that probably has more to do with my lack of attention than anything else.
Bathroom Baskets
I have a cabinet mounted to the wall in my little half-bath, and this cabinet only has one shelf for things. I had noticed that the shelf was getting cluttered with all my headbands, jewelry, and products that I use on a daily basis. I looked on Pinterest to see if I could find any good solutions, but came up empty. The next time I was at Target, I saw these little metal baskets and voilà! The baskets just fit, and I can put my headbands in one, and my daily products in the other. I have them hanging from Command hooks, and it's worked out pretty well.
That's it for this month's DIYs! I hope this has inspired you to try out some crafty things of your own! Let me know how they go in the comments below!
